Luxleaks expose the cost of non-Europe

Por Ana Gomes

"The Luxleaks  expose the cost of non-Europe.
While our Governments in the Council and the Commission callously impose brutal taxes and lethal austerity on the middle classes and the poor, they immorally compete to afford schemes for tax avoidance and tax evasion to the rich and large companies, via tax rulings and even via tax amnesties, such as the one offered by the Portuguese Government, with troika blessing, to the Espírito Santo gangsters in 2012.
We will not have public or private investment for growth and jobs in Europe and we cannot have fair competition and a true Single Market if our Member States continue embarked in a race to the bottom on tax dumping.
The Commission must act and urgently:
1 - Delivering on the ongoing investigations for "State aid" on Luxembourg, Hollande, Ireland
2 - Supporting the EP in the trilogue on the new Anti Money Laundering Directive, specifically in establishing public access to a registry of beneficial ownership of social participations, including trusts and foundations.
3 - Delivering on country-by-country reporting
4 - Pressing Member States to recover taxes evaded and to confiscate the proceeds of tax fraud
Finally, the European Commission must urge and welcome  the setting up by the European Parliament of a Special Inquiry Committee on tax evasion and tax avoidance. This can only assist you in pressing Member States and the Council to act".
